Recognise and React
The first Christmas had signs surrounding it – signs in nature, signs in God’s word – and the reactions were just as varied. But the significance was far wider – and turned on its head the expectations of many. The ruler and religious experts of God’s mob? They reacted with aggression and apathy. The pagans who served the stars? Well, they saw the star set by God, above His boy, and came to find Him, and to worship Him. That should not surprise us – that is the nature of grace, as God has always shown it!
