Gathering

The command to ‘make disciples of all nations’ has three parts to it… and this week we are looking at ‘gathering’ – disciples are part of a new community that gathers together. In the first instance, we are ‘gathered’ into a community with God Himself (and ‘baptism’ points to how God makes this possible). In the second instance, this community with God means we are gathered into a community with others in community with God. And the imagery in the Bible of this – body, building, bride, vine – are all images that only work when they are ‘gathered’ – in one place, at one time. If you are a disciple of Jesus, you gather!

Who are we as God’s people, under this label of ‘Narrabri Anglican Church’? Every week, we read a slogan (a ‘mission statement’) on our newsletter. It is on our letterhead. It is part of our logo. And over the next four weeks, we are going to look at these words (‘gathering’, ‘growing’, ‘going’) and we will add a fourth at the start (‘gospelling’).
